POZOS ART PROJECT, INC. is a non-profit corporation, founded in Houston, Texas in 2008, with the goal of building on the success of the Pozos Children’s Project. This highly successful project, which was carried out from the fall of 2007 through the spring of 2008, involved teaching photography and printmaking to children age 7 to 16 years of age in the Mexican town of Mineral de Pozos, Guanajuato. The project culminated in the publication of the book and the making of the exhibition, Mi Pueblo: The Pozos Children’s Project. The exhibition opened in March of 2008 at The Jung Center of Houston, then traveled to the Wittliff Collections Gallery at Texas State University and the Museo Regional de Querétaro, Mexico. The exhibition will continue to travel to venues worldwide under the auspices of The Wittliff Collections.

The Pozos Children’s Project was directed by the husband and wife team of photographer Geoff Winningham and artist Janice Freeman, with the assistance of eight undergraduate students from Rice University, who traveled to Pozos to work on the project. Thirty-eight children from Pozos participated in the project, and it is their photography and printmaking which comprise the Mi Pueblo exhibition and catalog.

The Pozos Art Project will continue and expand the work of the Pozos Art Project, with workshops tentatively scheduled for the Summer of 2010.

Both workshops are directed by Geoff Winningham and Janice Freeman, assisted by a small team of undergraduate students with expertise in the visual arts. Each workshop will be limited to 12 participants, including approximately eight children from Pozos and four 12 to 18 year-old students from the United States. Undergraduate students who wish to apply for consideration as assistants and 12 to 18 year-olds from the United States who wish to apply for participation in one of the workshops should contact:
